R Secretary ZoomZoom

Zoom (3 years in photo) is an Appaloosa mare registered with both the ApHC and the ICAA. I purchased her in April 2005 as a coming three-year-old sport horse prospect from Kim Rumpsa at Spotted Rump Ranch. She is a red dun with spotting across her rump, back and neck. More spots appear all the time, so she's still a work in progress. She is a nicely put together mare who moves so smoothly off the leg she's been described as a "cadillac." She's also showing nice form over fences.

Zoom is a gift from my father, who gave me the purchase money just before he died of cancer in December, 2004. I think the two of them would get along.

Show Brags:

Nov. 05 -- CANTER Hunter Pace: Youngest Horse

(This was a charity ride for CANTER of Southern Illinois, which places retired racehorses with new owners. Zoom did a lovely job out in a lot of open territory helping me take care of a team of pony clubbers.)

Nov. 05 -- Gateway Stable Schooling Show

1st -- Walk Trot (with me); 4th -- Hunter under Saddle (with me); 3rd -- Egg and Spoon (with Ana) -- she really is a smooth ride!; 2nd -- Ground Poles (with Ana)

April 06 App-solute Blast (Appaloosa breed show)

1st -- Non-Pro Hunter in Hand Mare; 1st -- Adult Hunter Under Saddle; 2nd -- Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle; 2nd -- Open Hunter in Hand Mare; 3rd -- Open Breed Hunter Under Saddle; 3rd -- Open Breed Cross-rails. (We had a very good day!)

Zoom and I waiting for the jump course to get set up at App-solute Blast in April, 2006.

Ana and Zoom out in the pasture.

Ana riding Mister, Zoom's sire. Yes, that's a stallion she's nonchalantly hacking around without stirrups (or helmet -- bad mom!). That was the same day I got to jump him around a course for the first time -- what a treat!

This is Zoom's sire, Secret Mr BarReed (Mister). He has a pretty nice pedigree and has zillions of awards and wins and stuff.  And here is Jewel, Zoom's dam. Her pedigree includes Spotted Bull, who goes back to Man O War. I'm hoping Zoom jumps as well as her parents!

This is Mister's granddaddy, First Secretary. He looks a bit like Secretariat with spots, doesn't he? As the story goes, when Secretariat was retired to stud, they weren't sure he was going to be successful at it, so they crossed him with a little Appaloosa mare with a very undistinguished pedigree (the grandparents are nameless "reservation horses") to see if he was fertile. First Secretary is that very first breeding. Between Secretariat and Spotted Bull, Zoom should have some speed and athleticism on her! And she knows her heritage. Her best friend on the farm is Little Wish, a granddaughter of Affirmed.
