The Irish Setter Club of Greater St. Louis actively rescues and rehomes Irish Setters who find themselves in need of our services. Most of our dogs come from good families who can no longer keep their dogs due to illness, relocation, or other events beyond their control. Some dogs are found in local shelters or are found as strays by caring individuals. A small percentage come from abusive situations. We will not place a dog that has demonstrated aggressiveness towards a person.
While Irish are no longer as popular as they were in the 1970's, quite a few are still around. If you are interested in acquiring an Irish Setter, please contact us! Even if you are not interested in a rescue, we can put you in touch with reputable breeders and others who may have what you are looking for. We ask that you do not buy any dog from a pet store. Please follow the link to learn about the commercial pet breeding industry and why pet store dogs are a bad deal (they're also usually much more expensive than a puppy from a reputable breeder!).
Below is a list of the dogs we currently have available. We tend to be "feast or famine" -- if we don't have any dogs at the moment, just be patient -- we will soon. In addition, you may want to search for setters on Petfinder. We can help facilitate an adoption from another club.
Please note: We do ask you to fill out a one-page application as part of the process of adopting from us. I will not search for a dog for you unless you return the application. I realize this makes me a hopeless beaurocrat, but that form becomes my paper trail for each dog that is adopted and helps keep me organized. It is also the policy of the Irish Setter Club of America.

| Sully was found at a commercial breeders' auction (puppymill auction) in Missouri. He was sold as a show prospect when he was a puppy, but fell on hard luck. Sully will be making his maiden dog show appearance at the Irish Setter National in Texas this June. We groomed him up for this special occasion, but he jumped in the pool between getting off the table and getting his picture taken. Adopted. | |

Belle is also from the auction and was whelped Christmas Day, 1995. She wants nothing more in this world than her very own person to devote herself to completely, and would probably be happiest as an only dog. She is very affectionate and good with children. Belle is housebroken and some of that classic Irish sense of humor is beginning to emerge as she learns how to be a house dog. She is spayed and ready to go. Adopted. A couple of years ago, we took six dogs out of a mid-Missouri commercial dog breeding auction. If you would like to read about these dogs, click here.
