Frodo-Prints in the Marsh
by A. Grayt-Pohett
One night I dreamed I was slogging
Along the marsh with my Sam.
Many ghosts from that land flashed across the sky.
And each time I noticed footprints in the marsh.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints.
Other times there were one set of footprints.
This bothered me because I noticed that
During the low periods of the trip when I was
Suffering from boredom, blisters, or the runs,
I could see only one set of footprints.
So I said to my Sam, "You promised me,
Cur, that if I let you come,
You would carry all our stuff.
But I noticed that during my most lazy periods
On our trip there have only been
One set of prints in the marsh.
Why, when I have needed you most,
Did you bugger off somewhere?"
My Sam replied,
"One set o' prints meant I carried you those times, Frodo.
You was drunk again, sir."
