Live At Esquire Tavern

Mighty Trust Crusher, Catch 23, and NFA

Mighty Trust Crusher

One of the last shows at The Esquire Tavern that I went to, consisted of Mighty Trust Crusher (formally known as Skinkeeper), Catch 23, and NFA. Catch 23, and NFA were passing through Moncton on their Eastern Canada tour.

Starting off was MTC. While they added a guitar player, and have slowed down their sound, they managed to keep the heavier metal style that they have always been associated with. By making their tunes more simple and rhythmic, they manage to keep a pure kick ass sound alive.

It seems that the days of low-growling are definitely gone. They performed several of their old tunes which sounded even better than before, especially with the addition of a guitar player.

The next to perform is a band that I had never even heard of. Catch 23. A 2 member band consisting only of a singing guitar player and a bass player. Instead of a tradition drummer, they went the technological way and used a drum machine. Surprisingly enough, they had a pretty cool sound. You could tell the drums were artificial but they sounded pretty good.

It was refreshing to see band using a different approach to the so called, "alternative" music that we hear at all of these live shows. It was a sad sight to see that with only the 2 members, it was hard to hear a lot of the female vocals, but that was the only downside to this bands performance.

The final band to perform was a band that I seem to miss every time they came to town and this time I was able to see them, finally.

NFA, from Hampton, put on a great show. With a mixture of punkish style riffs intertwined with alternative music, they delighted the crowd and put on a cool show. A lot of energy can be felt from a show of theirs where they push themselves to the limit and the crowd follows suit with them. With several releases behind them now, their sound has certainly improved from the days of songs like "Incomplete".

After departing from the Esquire, they would head towards the rest of New Brunswick and then make a jaunt to Quebec and to Ontario with their Eastern Canadian tour. Our best wishes to them.
