A cool Friday night in Adelaide saw the coming of the great man from across the ocean. We saw Bic play a good, if a little nervous, set of songs. Then came Neil and band. "Last One Standing" ..... Absolutely outstanding live... A very good start...and an apology for not saying goodbye with Crowded House personally. The band were great. They were in a jamming mood and did so with Neil firmly at the helm. At one point Neil decided to play the drums, then conceded that one thing about going solo is that he realised he couldn't play EVERYTHING.... But his drumming was pretty good. Liam was great on guitar and drums. He had a Mark Hart feel about him ... just getting on with the job. "Don't Dream It's Over" ... very spiritual ... Neil got us singing and came to the very front of stage and sang off-mike with us and to us ... It was a magic moment! "Last Day Of June" (Neil said he wanted to play this at soundcheck but couldn't remember some of the words, so some guy (Reece Bocair he said his name was) shouted out the next two lines ... and Neil played it ... when it got up to those lines the crowd applauded his efforts ... a good moment). Highlights of the nights included Neil calling for the second line of songs ... Reece called out those to "Prodigal Son" and "The Devil You Know," and when Neil asked for "Sister Madly" Reece was silent, so I piped up and called out the lines, and bloody Reece got the credit for it. Neil said something about Reece's Mum would be proud if she was there ... and she was! This was a great moment. Another highlight was when someone called out "Play something from Grease" and the band went into an impromptu version of "Summer Lovin'"... It was a great night and I think there were alot of converts to the music and concerts of one Cornelius Mullane Finn.. |
