by Karena Hoyer Apparently lifers got in to the soundcheck around 5 p.m. and heard four songs and got to talk to Neil as well. Young Elroy was handing out stickers (doing Peter's dirty work) out the front before the gig, he's such a little cutie too. I was talking to Peter when he came out, Peter goes, "This is Elroy," so I shake his hand and said, "Nice pictures Elroy." I got a big "Thanks!" out of that. He seems very used to talking to people, and then he was out the front handing out stickers, this little lad, it looked so cute. He got heaps of funny looks from poeple as the walked in. You could tell that they were thinking, why is this little kid handing out these stickers. I said to him a few minutes later, "No one knows who you are mate," he goes "Yeah, I know!" There was a much larger gap in between Bic finishing and Neil starting, from the beginning of this gig it looked like it was going to be good! The audience were in high spirits, as was Neil (we think he'd been doing a bit of the "Tokyo" thing if you know what I mean!) Off came the jacket after three songs, he did a little dance on stage (more like a stumble). The band were working well together and the mixing was better as well. Although being another eight rows back from the night before may have made the difference, it did sound better. Neil was in a very good mood (even after signing another 200 CD covers before the show) he was talking a lot more than the night before. He had to be reminded to have a drink again, so he did, whilst having a chat with the crowd. He asked who was at the FTTW gig and who was at the front. He said he had a high regard for all of the people at the front, asked the toilet question again. Had a drink (you could hear this slurping noise) and then he decided to have a gargle as well, he was getting lots of laughs from the crowd tonight. And me being one of the silly ones there, he gargled and then I decided to yell out 'mi, mi, mi, mi' as you do after you've gargled. I'm trying to remember the set list: it was the same as usual with the TWT songs, NTGYTYA, PU and SN, both sounded great again but Neil didn't go to the extremes with the guitar effects tonight. We also scored FAYF, Distant Sun, Message To My Girl, a couple of jazzy little numbers. Simon and I were ready to run down the front again when the opportunity arose, but just before we did, a voice rang out from the very top and back of the Theatre, who could it be you ask? None other than our good friend Aylin, Neil responded and asked who it was and of course she yelled back, good set of lungs she has! During this Simon and I were making our move down to the front. I yelled out 'it's drum-stick girl!' to which I scored many a blank look from the crowd (it's kind of a private joke now) although a few people knew what I was on about. Well we made our way to the front, this time I was right in front of the stage and we were all scoring smiles from Neil. You could tell he liked having people there. There were a few 'we love you Neil!!' girls there again and they got a few laughs again. I was yelling out for "Spirit Of The Stairs" all night but he didn't play it, I really want to hear that song. Everyone at the front had sore hands from banging on the stage yelling the good old chant of "We want more! We want more!" Well we got more of couse seeming there are two encores. We didn't get "Don't Dream It's Over" tonight however, but it didn't matter because of all the other little things we got. Neil got his cup of tea, which wasn't Barry's Tea, he complained about it for a while. Neil was good enough to come and shake everones hand at the end (well those on the right hand side) I just missed out, he was walking straight towards me and then started moving to his left, so he missed about three poeple to the right of me as well. But hey, I did score Robert's set list. It was the one from Friday night. So that will be hanging on my bedroom wall very soon. Neil's voice was excellent on both nights and to those listies who didn't get to the second show, well you missed out, it was decidedly better than the one on Friday night. |
