The day after my exams finished I had the good fortune to see Neil's first Sydney show. Bic Runga was great. She's so cute! Really elfin but in a good way. My group of friends (well my sister's friends actually because my friends have no taste!) and I tried to be very encouraging because she seemed a little unsure of herslf. Not during the songs but in between them. Question" Why don't people bother to come for the support? You paid the money - why not take a gamble. You might actually -- shock horror -- like them! I was really happy Neil started with "Last One Standing" for the stupid reason that it's a "beginning" kind of song for me because it's first on the CD. "King Tide" was awesome. At the end of the concert, I worked out what song was stuck in my brain and that was it, which is surprising since it was so early. When he asked for requests we yelled out "Message", but no luck. :( The purple aeroplane was mine and my sister's but he didn't play either of our picks ("Love You Til The Day I Die" -- a long shot, but worth a try -- and "Nails in My Feet"). Oh well. "Suffer Never" was good considering Tim wasn't there (I was hoping since it was Sydney he might show up), except I wasn't a big fan of that solo. Too long by far and not good enough to justify it. But then again I'm not a guitar person, more bass or drums. Did anyone notice Robert's bassplayer dance. You know how Nick bops when he plays -- well like that only more uncoordinated. He bops like such a guy! Guys can't use their hips! Except Nick (hmm... ;-) Liam was pretty impressive. Not just decoration, he was actually good, although shy. He got lots of screams though when Neil introduced the band.I wish the keyboard player had talked more -- I love Irish accents. Neil's voice is sounding GREAT -- that was my first impression. He was hitting most of the high notes spot on without going 'crackly' (I can't think of the right expression). Yeah, so that's my bits and pieces on the show. Had a major post-concert sadness thing (the whole it's over, I don't have it to look forward to anymore thing) but I had a great time. |
