Faith No More - King For A Day, Fool For A Lifetime

In their latest release, Faith No More has perhaps released their best album to date. "King For A Day, Fool For A Lifetime."

Following some troubles within the band, mainly the departure of longtime guitar player, Jim Martin, the band took on the talents of Trey Spruance of Mr. Bungle, and wrote the material for KFAD.

Starting off right to the point, "Get Out" shows us right away that FNM still has a kick ass sound. A guitar heavy mix really shows off the songs. "Ricochet", "What A Day", "King For A Day", and "The Gentle Art Of Making Enemies" are indeed the best tracks of this long awaited album.

However, at first listen, this album might catch you off guard as it did me. "Angel Dust" was a heavy album with FNM and KFAD is more mellow. Songs like "Caralho Voador", "Take This Bottle" and the hip gospel tune, "Just A Man" really show us that FNM is taking on ALL of the genre's of music, head on! "Take This Bottle" is a song that you might hear at a club that people waltz to, and I imagine you could get away with playing "Just A Man" at a local church.

All of these aspects of this new album, really make you wonder what the band is trying to accomplish. Personally, being a long-time FNM fanatic, I know that FNM is known for playing many styles of music and doing a gracious job of it.

With the jazz influence really popping up, you'd think that the heavy side of FNM went the way of the dodo. Well not really. "Cuckoo For Caca" is a song that's reminiscent of AD's "Jizzlobber". "Ugly In The Morning" also hits ya pretty hard with the unusual chorus and funky bass lines.

A lot of fans felt that with 2 members of Mr. Bungle in FNM, they'd become the same band. Well no! "Star A.D." is indeed a song that you could probably hear on a MRB album, but nevertheless, FNM did it and it sounds great.

The first single, "Digging The Grave" is indeed what FNM was first known for. This catchy song is a song that can only be classified as Faith No More. They seem to have a sound that isn't anywhere else and yet that sound is a combination of some of the more complex sounds in today's music industry.

Even a taste of jazz pops up with "Evidence", perhaps one of the best FNM mellow tunes around.

If you want faves of the CD, you'd have to pick all 14. Any FNM fan would love this album and music lovers of all kinds would love this album.
