APA-69 Classic: For Ladies, Gentleman, and Others of Taste Issue 93
Even though *APA Eros* is gone, we still have *APA-69 Classic* to explore our most private activies -- sex. Fimilar names on the membership roster include Richard Freeman and Arthur Hlavaty but everyone contributed some fine material.

In addition to all the mailing comments, we get some erotic fiction from Bernadette bosky and Arthur Rapp. They included a very strange application from something called the Christian Dating Club that seems to have everyone on earth including "non-evangelical-denomination unbelivers, those who have used contraceptives, divorced, semi-seducers, smokers, hadicapped, skin diseases, unemployed, male gynecologists, male dentists, the overweight."

Areola: A Journal of Erotica Vol 3 Issue 2 August '95
A simple but enjoyable collection of short erotic stories. It's nice to find hot erotic stories in a zine -- not a art mag, not a slick sex rag, just a simple zine. Best of all, it's priced like a zine so you can afford to enjoy it.

Miranda Wilcox wrote about a sexual encounter on train; James Collier spun a tale of an illicit affiar; and Tom Ash told us about visiting a whorehouse in Seoul.

This one has the inside scoop on bars, brothels, and the entire sex industry in South East Asia, including Philippines, Vietnam, Korea, and especially Thailand.

Very informative articles on the sex scene in Angeles City, Philippines, presenting the nitty gritty on finding the best bars and meeting a girl to marry. Also useful is the piece on taking erotic photos of Thai girls.

Asia File: The zine on sex and relationships with S.E. Asian Women Issue 6 June '95
*Asia File* gives you the inside scoop on bars, brothels, and the entire sex industry in South East Asia. It's packed full of tips for fun in the Philippines, Vietnam, Korea, Cambodia, and especially Thailand.

This issue seems particularly useful. I think it's due to the large number of reader-submitted articles, covering a broad spectrum of experiences. Lots of tips for traveling trough India and an intriging interview with an American expat about sex trade abuses in Cambodia.

The Bag Man Times Issue 2 July '95
One of the rudest collection of comics I've ever seen. Eric creates collages with photos clipped out of porno mags and also draws gross (but appealing) comics.

Highlights include the illustration of what the phone sex babe *really* looks like, behind the scenes in a resturant's kitchen, and fishing with the rednecks. I like how he personalizes each copy by writing in their name in select captions.

There's also action shots pasted over with Bill and Hillary's faces, drawings of guys with droopy dicks, and strange newsclips.

$2 cash Each to The Bag Man Times, 2568 Twin Rivers Park Rd, Eureka, MO 63025 (18 Pages/S/RSF) No trades/submissions OK/no ads/Age Statement.

Balloon Animals Issue 3
A zine for people who are into inflatable objects for sex play. A story about a guy who orders an inflatable dragon, which comes to life; two male balloon fetishists meet in the forest and produce simultaneous explosions; two guys discover their common interest in balloons; tips for introducing a lover to balloons if he or she isn't specifically into them; plus anthropomorphic animal drawings (careful with that unicorn horn!)

Balloon Animals Issue 4 June '95
A rather unique zine for people who fetishize balloons, latex, and blow-up inflatable animals.

This thick 31-page issues features three short stories and a overview of the different types of balloons.

Like so many unique and interesting zines, this one couldn't drum up enough business to keep it going. There is some good news compensate for the bad. With the death of Balloon Animals* Karl is going to restart his prior publication *Grumbling Yak*. Looking foward to that.

Banned Thoughts Vol 1 Issue 1 May '95
"Banned Thoughts" is right, as any discussion about sexuality get snuffed out by the Canadian authorities. They explore themes of sexuality and other repressed ideas.

This premier issue is a bit light, including more things literary then things salicious. The more intersting things include an *Apology*-styled page of "Confessions," a rant about the stupidies of traffic laws, and true stories of on-line romances.

Batteries Not Included Vol 2 Issue 9 September '95
This is one of my favorate sex zines -- it's like a true fanzine with discussions about porno movies, sex toys, and sexuality.

Richard has been reviewing a lot of hardcore videos for the *mainstream* porno press, so he decicded to check out something a bit different, and reviewed *The Wide Wide World of Jane Mansfield* in this issue. We also get a letter about the anti-sex league and Tammy Cole extensive appreciation of Nina Hartley's new film *The Last X-Rated Movie*.

This is one of my favorate sex zines -- it's like a true fanzine with discussions about porno movies, sex toys, and sexuality.

Richard Pacheco elaborated endless about his favorate new video, *Fresh Meat*, produced by John Leslie and starting Ron Jeremy. Richard liked it some much he's even got me interested in it. Vic Stanley explained the sexual overtones of professional wrestling; Lisa Falour presented some excerpts from he diaries; Larry Tritten created a eulogy for Laurien Dominique; and Rachel James critiqued a trashy book that reveals how to meet and date women.

They also sells some tapes.

Behind the Scene With Jeffifer: A Magazine Devoted to the Fine Art of Female Domination Issue 13 September '95
Jennifer Brooks is not only the publisher and editor, she's also the model in the photos. It's devoted to the fine art of spanking with fantasies, real life stories, photos of elaborate spanking scenarios, and personal ads.

Now you too can earn a staring role in an upcomming Jennifer Brooks production. Send a recent snapshot, a physical description, and describe any limitations you might have. If all turns out right, fame and forturne (and a very red bottom) can be yours. She also told us what to expect on CSN (the Cable Spanking Network) and showed what happens to two brats who misbehave.

Bitches with Whips: Dedicated to Female Dominance Vol 3 Issue 2
A slick and very entertaining magazine the emphasises the more "cerebral" side of sexual fetish. Instead of pages and pages of beaver shots we get informative articles exploring safe ways to have fun with exotic toys and complex fantasies.

For many people, "bondage" means leather straps or metal wristcuffs, but for Augusta Fury "bondange" means rope and plenty of it. She talked about how rope played an important part in the work of Irving Klaw and offered lots of advice on how to use it properly. There's also several pieces of erotic fiction, warnings about domestic violence, and advise for save use of latax. Plenty of ads for professional dominatrixes.

Black Sheets: Kinky - Queer - Intelligent - Irreverent Issue 7
A great zine on the broad spectrum of sexuality, with stories about real sexual experiences, hot fiction, and resouces for straights, gays, lesbians, and bi-sexuals.

This is the big "Damn Bisexuals" issue with plenty of writing that explore sexuality that hates to be fenced in. Cecilia Tan revealed how hes sexuality developed over the years; Carol Queen describes how difficult it is to pin down bisexuality (or any sexuality); Bill told us about his first visit to a duo-gendered jack-and-jill-off party; Mister Boy revealed his curiosity about straight sex; Lori Selke explained the importance of developing the bi community; and we get the second half of his friendly conversation with Pat Califia

Cherotic Revolutionary Vol 1 Issue 5
Frank Moore is a legend around these parts -- organizing performances and workshops about the transformative nature of tribal sex magic. This is an intense zine mixing psychedelia, photographs, poetry, and rants.

In this issue we get more stuff from Robert Howington, including a very long (and very enjoyable) letter. I also enjoyed the conversation between Frank and Paul (*The Realist*) Krassner, his review of Annie Sprinkle's performace, and Labash's drawings.

If you can't make it to one of his workshops he also produces books, videos, and audio tapes.

Co-Op News: Your "Voice of Industry" Newsletter Vol 2 Issue 2
This has *nothing* to do with heath food or real estate. It's a newsletter for people selling sexuality-related products.

There's an update on the legal battle against forcing bookstore shelve things in an "adults-only" section.

I particularly liked the list of "deadbeats," i.e. warnings of consumers who bounce checks. It also serves as a central point for co-op promotional mailings.

Continental Spectator Issue 179
The hotest collection of personal ads I've seen. The *Continental Spectator* offers free ads to those that include several photos of two or more people. The result is a magazine filled with ads of people showing it all and doing it all, many in full color. Of course 80 pages of glossy printing doesn't come cheap so the price is relatively high. If you and/or your mate like to travel and swing, this is the place to find what and who you're looking for.

Cuir Vol 1 Issue 8 June '95
While people may go to Nevada for legal prostitution, San Francisco is where *it all* happens. There are more sexuality publications based here than anywhere else on Earth. I wouldn't say that it's specifically a reflection of the queer community, it's just that people here really know how to enjoy life and sex. The publication reflects that spirit as it's probably the world's only publication for the pansexual S/M community that's distrubuted free every month.

The pick their favorite kinky films at the SF Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, explore the definition of the S/M community, and interviewed author Laura Anoniou.

Lots of ads and community calendar so you can really know what's goin' down.

Danzine: A Free & Exciting Monthly for Ladies in the Biz! Issue 3 September '95
At first I thought this was a zine about the life of someone named Dan. But I quickly realized it's dedicated to adult entertainers and live "dan-zers."

If you think the world of sex is weird, check out Teresa's legal research of what constitutes prostitution. A friend of hers was busted for doing a girl show in a booth and the vice cops said that agreeing to sex for money is the same whether it's with a partner or a customer. How nice of the cop to beat himself off before the arrest.

A very supportive resource for women in the industry.

Eidos: Sexual Freedom & Erotic Entertainment for Women, Men, & Couples Vol 8 Issue 3
Thanks to the free speach supporter Jesse Helms, 18 US 2257 is now fully in effect. This law will undully effect adult magazine publishers more than rising postage rates or paper prices. This law requires such a burdensom amount of paperwork that many smaller publications may be forced out of business. Created under the guise of stoping the non-existent *kiddieporn*, it requires all producers of adult material to maintain ID records for everone that appears in their materials. These records must then be open to free inspection at a published street location at any time without a warrent. Brenda has decide to fight the law on the belief that it destroys First, Fourth, and Fifth Amendment rights. So far I've noticed that several publications have agreed to the law while other have not. This law sets a dangerous prescident for laws that regulate independent publishers. Lets fight this thing before it gets worse.

Exotic Magazine: Uncovering the Pacific Northwest Vol 3 Issue 3 September '95
A slick magazine covering (or as they say, "uncovering") the sex scene in Portland, Seattle, and Tacoma. There are lots of ads for local strip clubs, but the occational written bits are quite amusing.

A prostitute in Florida is taking an interesting tack in her attempt to make prostitution legal. She taking her case to the Supreme Court stating that "If an abortionist can enter a woman's womb to vacuum a fetus to its demise...then how can a woman *not* have the right to use her own reproductive organs to give away sex or charge for it as she sees fit?"

The Genuine Article: A Quarterly Newsletter in Praise of Natural Womanly Beauty Vol 1 Issue 3
Frank Wallis' zine devoted to the apprectiation of natural breasts without any plastic surgery augmentation.

Frank *exposed* the truth behind topless sunbathing on France's beaches. While going topless at French beaches is socially acceptable, only 16% of the women surveyed says they do it all the time. Another surprising statistic is that 76% said they consider their breasts beautiful. American responces would probably be half that figure. I also enjoyed Richard Hollender's informative recomendations for photographers and editors who work with nude models. He used to be the managing editor at *High Society* so he knows what he's talking about.

Genuine Article: A Quarterly Newsletter in Praise of Natural Womanly Beauty Issue 2
Frank Wallis, publisher of *The Anti-Hollywood Reporter*, brings us this newsletter that sings the praises of the female body.

A lot of sexually oriented zines (to say nothing of mainstream magazines) tend to express their attraction to the feminine form with a poorly repressed drool. You can almost picture these guys slobbering on the keyboard as they adjust their trenchcoats. *Genuine Article*, however, presents its ideas intelligently and with style. The letters section is devoted to the discussion of breast augmentation, and there's even a letter from the editor of *D-Cup* magazine. There's the second part of "The Truth About Breast Implants," and an interview with Danielle Ashe, a naturally buxom nude model.

For the discriminating voyeur.

This one is for guys (and gals, I suppose) who like their women hairy. The reader is treated to page after page of hairy armpits and legs, to say nothing of pubic hair that seems to spread like a rash. The zine is filled with articles singing the praises of hirsute and reviews of related videos.

Lots of really great articles, but I really appreciate Pam devotion to the community and commitment to exposing scams and rip-offs. We also get a thoughtful piece exploring the strange American custom of women shaving their legs; a discussion on if body hair can be considered a fetish; and an incredible story (documented with photos) of a man who underwent body shaving and electrolysis for a $1,500 fee.

Help Me: Outlaw Biker Confidential Issue 1
In responce to complaints about *Dora Zine* being an overprice picture book with no stories, DVH created this new publication that features five stories, plenty of pictures, and a lower price.

Just like *Dora Zine*, this is a very graphic and brutal publicaion, almost more so, with its deatailed descriptions of rape. If you are offended by material such as this (like *Answer Me* #4) I suggest that you just avoid it. Others who are interested in graphic descriptions and photographs of brutal sexuality are likely to find just what they're looking for. The stories are most certainly fiction, though with so many photographs, and limited reproduction techniques, I'm not sure that *all* of these photos are staged. Other then that, I have no further judgements.

JJ(O): Jack and Jill (Off) Issue 2
GUEST REVIEWED BY JENN GOGGLEBOX: To be quite honest with you, I haven't read very many sex zines. The closest thing to sex in most zines I see is teenage girls writing about torturous crushes they have on mean boys who care about their skateboards more than their dicks.

And they frame the entire rant with cute hearts and stars and quotes from Olympia bands. So you can imagine what a tingly little jolt Jack and Jill (Off) gave me, with all its naked pics and stories of licking, fucking and sucking. Actually, the sex stories didn't seem much different than the regular fare in Penhouse's letters section, but what's really great about this zine are the masturbation stories, with such profound gems of advice as this: "Try lubing up tour dick and sliding it between the toilet bowl and seat. The smooth porcelain feels great, you can vary the pressure on your cock and clean up in amazingly simple!" What ingenuity! The one thing about the masturbation stories that kinda confused me was how perfectly perky they all were. Where are the tales of old men who just got released from the mental hospital last week, smell like fermented piss and wear nothing but Darth Vadar underoos, prowling around the subway cars and stopping to jack off in your face while hollering "You want mashed potatos?! I GOT YO' MASHED POTATOS!!" Actually, I do have a sorta interesting jerk-off story and since I'm not officially doing a zine anymore, I'll write it here. A couple weeks ago I was hitchhiking by myself from Mexico to San Francisco and this blond surfer boy picked me up around twilight. We somehow started talking about sex and he asked me if I would watch him jerk off. He said it so innocently, as if he was asking me to help with his paper route. I said okay, and we parked in a field and while the sun sunk down behind the ocean I watched him, um, wax his board. When he was done he drove me a couple more towns, we shook hands (very wet hands, albeit) and said goodbye. Okay, so to get back to the zine review, Jack and Jill (Off) is a good sex zine. A little too male-oriented, but if you're male then I guess you won't mind that.

KPPT: Kinky People Places & Things Vol 5 Issue 2
What may appear to be a magazine that explores the outer reaches of sexuality is really a friendly little publication with lots of (and graphicly explicit) personal ads.

The real highlight here are the many short stories exploring many unique dominant scenarios. On the practical side is Diva Marie's detailed instructions on how to write to a dominatrix.

A very useful networking tool.

What may appear to be a magazine that explores the outer reaches of sexuality is really a friendly little publication with lots of personal ads.

Besides the many pages of extensive (and graphicly illustrated) personal ads, we also get excerpts from Jay Wiseman's book *SM 101* on fun you can have with clamps, a personal exploration into self bondage, what to do if a medical accident happens, and photos from London's Rubber Ball.

The Lady O Society Newsletter Issue 7 July '95
In dominanat/submissive relationships it's usually the man that takes the bottom role. This friendly British group provides support and erotic ideas for females submissives. The newsletter features news, letters, fictional fantasies, resources, and contact ads.

As the society expands, they're suffering some growing pains. Particularly disturbing are men who take advantage of the situation and place false personal ads. Lots of discussions about what it means to be a master and training a slave.

Lots of very worthwhile contacts too. Membership for ladies is $20.

Libido: The Journal of Sex and Sensibility Vol 7 Issue 3 Summer '95
A sophisticated journal about sexuality and eroticism. While many porn mags proclaim to have "adult" content, this magazine is truly for adults.

They came across a copy of the *American Encyclopedia of Sex*, published back in 1935. Finding it truly bizarre, they reprinted some choice excerpts for historical and humor sake. I also enjoyed Sophie duChien's story of reciving an angry letter from an anti-sex female lawyer that led to a meeting of the minds (and bodies).

The photos are both artistic and erotic and wouldn't be out of place hanging in a museum (well, a progressive museum).

ManZine Vol 2 Issue 4
I like how Frank Wallis ballances the erotic photos with engaging discussions about sexuality.

Frank goes for the traditional zine style here by assempling a number of collages featuring waif-like models with bold, slogal-like texts pasted on top. While I've seen things like this often in zine (most notably Riot Grrrl zines), Frank's is certainly a more mature interpretation. We also get resources for collectors of vintage pin-up art and suggestions for improving Demi Moore's *Striptease* (i.e. make it brutally realistic).

ManZine Vol 2 Issue 3
I like how Frank Wallis ballances the erotic photos with engaging discussions about sexuality.

This is by far his best issue yet. It features a wide range of articles covering sexuality from a multitude of perspectives. I loved everything in here but my favorate piece is the collection of short interviews with publishers of sex zines. Frank got the publishers of *Black Sheets, Paramour, Libido, Bust,* and *BNI* to all talk about why they do their zines. Frank's got a knack for getting people to open up via the Net. I enjoyed the articles where people responded to his inquries into women's feelings about condoms, if Black men really don't like to eat pussy, and unique place people have had sex. Great contributions from Richard Hollander about what really goes on at *Hight Society*, Lady Green exploring S/M in film, and a collection of photographs from Todd Friedman. To top it all off, there's a three page resource guide to Traci Lords' many films.

The Masquerade Erotic Newsletter Vol 4 Issue 4 August '95
One of my favorate sex zines featuring some of the best articles on erotica, fetishes, and the politics of porn.

So much good stuff here, starting off with a fascinating first-person piece on the ritual aspects of piercings. After that we get Carol queen intriging discussion about how heterosexual couples are now exploring the pleasures of using strap-ons and Pat Califia's essay about feminism and restrictions of sexuality.

The Masquerade Erotic Newsletter Vol 4 Issue 3 June '95
One of my favorate sex zines featuring some of the best articles on erotica, fetishes, and the politics of porn.

They reprinted excerpts from the "Sex" chapter of Masquerede's exciting new book *Outposts* [reviewed in *F5* #56]; Alice Joanou reviewed Annie Sprinkle's new *Postmodern Pinup Playing Cards*; and Jack Nichols talked to Camile Paglia about sexual violence, gender identity, homosexuality, and her new book.

NAMBLA Bulletin: Voice of the North American Man/Boy Love Association Vol 16 Issue 2 August '95
A publication of the North American Man/Boy Love Association. News of our shrinking freedoms and the endless struggles of that much miligned organization.

Bill Andriette reports on the new law requiring additional paperwork for sexually explicit publication. What this law requires is that publications maintain a public record of all the identies and ages of all models depicted in the magazine. It's so burdonsome that it will no doubt effect the bottom line of hundreds of tiny sex zines and may result in many of them shutting down for good. Because this law only applies to models engaging in "sexually explicit conduct," tame mainstream publications are alowed to go about their business unaffected. So far Brenda Tatelbaum is the first to go public in stating that she will not comply with the law in her publication *EIDOS*. Even though this legislation was created under the auspices of attacking groups like NAMBLA, it won't (directly) effect the publication *NAMBLA Bulletin*.

We here at *Factsheet Five* do not encourage or advocate the production or distibution of any materials which run afoul of U.S. law. We also don't believe this publication contradicts such laws. Readers should keep in mind that our reviews do not necessarily constitute an endorsement of the ideas contained in the publications.

NAMBLA Bulletin: Voice of the North American Man/Boy Love Association Vol 16 Issue 1 July '95
A publication of the North American Man/Boy Love Association. News of our shrinking freedoms and the endless struggles of that much miligned organization.

In September of '94 three NAMBLA activists formed an New York-based non-profit corporation called Zymurgy. The priciple goals are to promote a greater understanding of sexuality and to provide fundraising for NAMBLA. Now the New York State Attorney General Dennis Vacco made a number of false allegations and vowed to dissolve the corporation. Hmmm, must be an election comming up.

We here at *Factsheet Five* do not encourage or advocate the production or distibution of any materials which run afoul of U.S. law. We also don't believe this publication contradicts such laws. The Necroerotic Vol 1 Issue 2
*The Necroeritic* is "a zine devoted to those who find sexual lust in cadavers." This zine is founded on the principles of defending peoples' rights to have sex with the dead and promoting necrophelia for people of all ages.

John has "had the pleasure of spending several dick-hardening evenings at the Wayne State University medical library" examining their collection of coroner journals. He includes references and descriptions of his favoraite articles in the *American Journal of Forensic Medicine*. Surprisingly, another good source for necro stories is the *Weekly World News*. John explained how his fantasy girl is a young victim of a serial killer with numerous bruses and and stab wounds covering her body. Contrast this to Donald Browning, who said he likes 'em clean, recently dead, and very beautiful.

DO NOT put the words "The Necroerotic" anywhere on the envelope.

The Necroerotic Vol 1 Issue 1 Summer '95
*The Necroeritic* is "a zine devoted to those who find sexual lust in cadavers." This zine is founded on the principles of defending peoples' rights to have sex with the dead and promoting necrophelia for people of all ages.

We get a short biography of the orgininal Seargeant Bertrand who was a very active necropheliac back in 1847. He explained how legalized necrophilia, like necro-erotic brothels and potter's field date parlors, can help solve society's problems. We also get a true story of scaning the obituaries to find a youthful corpse to admire, a short piece of erotic fiction, and very gruesome photographs.

This may be his only issue. DO NOT address inquiries to "The Necroerotic."

Sex oriented newsletter with lots of unique classifieds and adult magazine ads from around the world.

A haven't seen this one in a while and they seem to have a stronger focus on sexual politics this time. It starts with a reprint from the British Association of Libertarian Feminists that expose the psudoscience surrounding pornography research. Then there's several pieces that explore child sexuality and the various methods governments use to exploits it.

A useful tool for international correspondence.

The Organ: Quarterly Newsletter of the Sex Maniac's Club Issue 19 September '95
Produced as a suppliment to the *Planet Sex Diary*, it's a guide to interesting social/sexual activities happening in the U.K. and around the world.

Lots of informative news and updates but the main features is Tuppy's profusely illustrated 10-page diary of her whirlwind trip around the U.S. The main reason for her visit was to reseach a book on high-class brothels but she also did an immense number of interviews for her latest political book. It's really wonderful hearing about all the people she met but even better are all the photos of the leading figure in the U.S. sex industry.

It also included a list of London area exotic Dancing. Lots of resources for things like swing club, fetish gatherings, sexuality magazines, and TV/TS boutiques.

The Organ: Quarterly Newsletter of the Sex Maniac's Club Issue 19 June '95
Produced as a suppliment to the *Planet Sex Diary*, it's a guide to interesting social/sexual activities happening in the U.K. and around the world.

The main feature is a full report on the 1995 Planet Sex ball. Tuppy also wrote up one of the most straghtfoward and informative piece I've ever read about the sexuality and sexual function of disabled people. It was written as a primer for sex workers so that they can better understand the needs and the responces of their disabled clients. It sounds like Tuppy is doing some incredible work for those people with sexual needs outside the mainstream. Bravo!

A magazine of erotica with a fine aestetic sense. Not as extreme as other publications listed here but full of elegant photographs and writing.

I for one would prefer more photographs. Recommened to people who enjoy *Yellow Silk*, it's an equal oportunity erotic magazine.

Pink Pages Issue 7 Summer '94
From deep in the heart of the Brooklyn zine scene comes Joe Maynard's collection of erotic and perverse writing.

Alfred Vitale told a tale of a truck driver and a two-bit hooker; "Dogfood" presented a real New York love story; Ralph Greco told us about the struggles of a straight man who liked to be butt fucked; and "Prologue" contributed a quickie dirty story.

On of the most compelling literary zines -- sex and perversion does it every time.

Ooooh...this is their best issue yet, featuring a bonanza of erotic tattoo pictures. They reported on Charles Gatewood's visit to Manhattan and included some of his photos. Steve Bondage makes an appearance, contributing eight exciting pictures. Also contributing erotic tatoo photographs is Efraim Gonzalez, Michael Dash, Katrina del Mar, and James Graham.

What's that song?..."oh yes it's ladies night, oh what a night." Since the Editrix of *Porn Free* had so many men volunteering to pose nude she decided to produce a special "ladies issue." I like how they mix cheesy photos of naked guys in rediculous poses with lots of intriging writing. My favorate piece is the collection of interviews with women who work in the porn industry. They interviewed the senior editor at *Penthouse*, the head of Feminists for Free Expression, the marketing director for CyberSpice, and the owner of the Blue Angel Erotic Cabaret.

Since they're being so nice, include something (like a photo of your piece genitalia) for their trouble.

Private Tymes: An Adult Magazine About Home Made Erotica Issue 2 September '95
Here's a zine for folks who see sex as the good clean fun that it is, and want to share their experiences with others. Steven encorrages people to send in their own personal exhibition, sexual encounter, and swing stories -- which they do -- and he prints.

Most of the stories are even accompanied by email or P.O. Box addresses so you can contact the writer for dialog or more. Lots of photos too, that people sent him or he downloads from the Net. Unfortunately the resolution is somewhat lacking in this 300 dpi/xeroxed zine, but only time will tell what it will grow into. Lots of resources too, like hot web pages, newsgroups, zine reviews, and personal ads. Overall a really fun and very hot zine.

Here's your chance to let your voyeuristic/exhibitionistic streak show.

Prometheus: Exploring Consensual Dominance and Submission Summer '95
The Eulenspiegel Society provides support and networking for the S/M community in New York. They have no restrictions on gender or preference -- the only preference being for S/M, D/S, or B/D.

There's a really informative piece by Fakir Musafar explaining the proper ways of "branding" human bodies. This practice is becomming more popular these days but it's easy to do it wrong, creating an unplesant experiece or a non-distictive marking. Once you're done with that, it's time to move on to Gary's instructional piece on the proper use of single-tale whips and how to create a dynamic impact.

Regular features include fiction, poetry, erotic art, club news, personal ads, and a calender of events.

Pulled Mints Issue 3
Karl Levinson and Julie Voit love each other and love making love to each other. This zine reflects their love but isn't exclusionary, as it features lots of enjoyable zine reviews and even a readers poll.

Of course it isn't a typical readers' poll as it includes such questions as "How long is your penis?" "How deep is your love?" and "What does semen taste like?" Seven people responded including such notables as d.b. VelVeeda and John Porcellino. I really enjoyed the sex toy reveiw section that features lengthy discussions about using Alka Seltzer, female condoms, and vibrators in sex play. Not to be too limiting, we get a rant about Windows 95 and a whole bunch of amusing comix.

Redemption: A Fanzine for the Sexually Adventurous and Alternative Vol 1 Issue 13 Summer '95
Advice and discussion of topics related to the world of S & M.

Alex has switched to more reader friendly font, and I for one am grateful. There's a look at flagellation throughout history, a list of the top nine favorite porn films, and a review of my review of a previous issue of *Redemption*. "Playing With Fire" deals with fire play in S & M (appropriately enough, there's also a section on treating burns). There's fiction too, which is probably the weakest part of the zine.

If leather makes you itch, this isn't for you.

Roots: Transgenderism in Time & Space Vol 1 Issue 1 Autumn, 1995
"It seemed like every book on crossdressing or transsexualism or transgenderism either ignored its presence in the ancient world, or gave a skewed and simplified version of it which I, as someone who's gotten a Master's in Greek and Latin, could not recognize." This is another reason why I love zines - they'll print the truths overlooked by the regular media.

This issue looks at transgenderism, both female-to-male and male-to-female, mostly in classical Greek history and mythology. "The three greatest heroes found in Greek mythology all have something very interesting in common: at some time during their lives, Achilles, Heracles, and Theseus all took on characteristics of the opposite sex." Some of the essays here also cover transgenderism in modern pop culture (especially music) and tribal practices.

Rude Issue 2
Yes, it's the second issue of Robert (*Subliminal Tattoos*) DuPree's scam zine. Posing as two guys and two girls who share a home and share beds, Robert constructs this zine as an outlet for his more purient interests. It's particulary amusing when read in light of the fact that practicing Christian DuPree actively censors the word "fuck" out of letters and submissions in *Subliminal Tattoos*. And yet another chapter in the DuPree saga.

Secret Magazine Issue 8 March '95
One of the most dynamic fetish magazines I've seen. They tracked down some of the best photographers and illustrators and printed it on some very fine glossy paper. I really like the design, especially how they bleed the photos out to the edge of the paper, making them appear larger than life. In addition to all the photos, we get news, interviews, and product reviews that are written in the friendliest "here's some neat stuff I discovered" tone.

There's an contract between master and slave, tips for beginners, an interview with the band Sleep Chamber, and featured photographs from Toko, Todd Friedman, Shinji Yamazaki, John Sanerineross, and Karo Design.

They sell lots of stuff too from Boutique Minuit at 60 Galerie du Centre, 1000 Brussels.

Subliminal Virginity: A Scrapbook about Sex Issue 2 June '95
Dave has created a number of scrapbooks over the years but this one is by far the most interesting (of course). In it he tackles the media's interpretation of sex with clips from everything on earth. Lots of stuff cliped from newspapers, like bizarre news items, unusual bits from advice column, and letters from ill-informed readers.

I really like the AIDS conspiracy bits, especially the congressional transcrips from 1970 where they talked about developing an AIDS-like biologial warfare disease in about 10 years. It also has the results of his sex/virginity survey.

Taste of Latex: A Magazine for those Who Test Their Limits Issue 11
After almost two years Taste of Latex is back with a new publisher. DM International has taken over this rocky publication and will hopefully put it on a steady keel.

Carol Queen presents an introduction to anal sex (or "buttfuckin'" as she put it); Deena Moore took some photos at Leatherfest VII; and there's a photo essay on the corset.

Tease! Issue 3 1995
Takes a loving look at pin-up erotica from yesteryear. The illustrations are the highlight, including photos and oil painting reproductions.

Tame by today's standards, a lot of this stuff manages to successfully combine innocence and erotica. This issue takes a look at the work of pin-up painter Bobby Toombs, cheesecake album cover photos, and a look back at the age of burlesque. TV's *Sheena Queen of the Jungle* gets the once over too.

An interesting glimpse at pin-up history.

Uncommon Desires Newsletter Issue 22 March '95
A highly political sex publication that focuses on the legal ramifications of underage erotic images. There's lots of news briefs, short fiction, and photos that may disturb some readers.

They discuss the implication of "sex-offender notification" law and reveal how the laws primarily just create neighborhood hysteria.

Uncommon Desires Newsletter Issue 21 January '95
These publishers are brave souls for producing this newsletter about the restrictions on our freedoms. Because they focus on underage erotic images they become an enemy of both the state *and* traditional PC liberals.

They explain the legal ramification of the recent Supreme Court refusal to review the case of Stephen Knox; explain the legalities of tapes produced by JD Video, who recently vanished; and there's more news on the Ohio man who faces more then 25 years for a consensual relationship with an underage girl.

Video Xcitement: The Nation's Leading Adult Video Shopping Publication Vol 9 Issue 4 July '95
"A monthly publication serving adult video enthusiasts and collectors worldwide, offering them a forum in which to buy, sell and trade adult-oriented videotapes."

This is *VX's* 100th consecutive issue. There's quite a variety of stuff reviewed within these pages: amateur, pro, bondage, catfights, spanking, and anal. The review of the video *The Fat, the Bald, and the Ugly* kind of made me cringe, but it exemplifies the attention to detail demonstrated by *VX's* publisher. All manner of erotic entertainment is covered, and there are plenty of ads to help the reader find what he or she is looking for.

One stop smut shopping.

WhAP!: Women Who Administer Punishment Vol 1 Issue 1
I've seen a bunch of zines devoted to women as tops/men as bottoms S/M relationships, but never with this much character, style, and humor. Instead of dry discussions about tools and techniques, *WhAP!* playfully explores the power dynamics between men and women.

They start with a bang with this hilarious article about Conservative Republican Women, exploring thier personal style and dress. We also get a revised marriage cememony to unite dominatrix with slave, tips for diapering your hubby, some short fiction, and a nine-page illustraed overview of the spanking scenario.

I love how it's full of 50's styled female images. It takes you back, both visually and mentally.
