Thought-provoking and rebellious, *Attitude Problem* combines writing from the pit with solid political opinions.

This one sports some good political writing and has improved a lot since last issue.

The subject of voting, consumer marketing, and big businesses having all the real power in this country was given a hard look. Alex discusses how the giant corporations really pull us in the direction that will most benefit them without giving us time to think what we really want. He also writes about his campaign to get a job at *MRR* and gives us an interview with Das Klowns.

Even More Punk Than You Vol 3 Issue 6
An enjoyable zine that avoids the trappings of most punk zines and instead fills it up with short humorous bits and comments.

There's a two-page quiz to measure you personal punkness, a complaint about buying large sized bras, and the "Top Ten Ways That Will Not Impress the Opposite Sex."

Fester: Explsoive American Nights Vol 1 Issue 1 1995
Without being about punk *music,* per se, this mag is very punk. it is inconoclastic, anarchist, anti-establishment and likes to throw phrases and pics onto the page without much thought for apearance.

Someone had beaucoup fun making this, you can have that much reading it.

"Well, how've I been you ask. I'm still angry, still young, and still angry."

Yup, that's the big word here. But besides all the bile, we get lots of movie reviews (each one with a choice quote), a Pansy Division rant, and a silly reprint from #2.

Some of the handwriting made it really tough to read.

Fuck Society Issue 1
"*Fuck Society* is strictly for Tough Guys." No, none of that scene unity or reaching out here. Just lots of bad attitude industrial and hardcore.

There is an original interview with Blixa this issue, and although it's two years old, it's still enjoyable. He talks about sueing U2, and playing with Neubauten, but the tape recorder's batteries gave out with 15 more minutes of the interview so we never get the rest.

Hangman Issue 3 June '95
This is closely connected to Conception Rec'ds (POB 6002, Plymouth MI, 48170). I have had the impressions this is close knit group of area bands where the average fan or musician might be in High School. There's nothing wrong with that, I wish I was that far ahead then. They have the punk ethic down very well.

From a bizarre questionnaire to scoping out Jerry Lee Lewis' house, everything in here was done for fun and meant to be the same.

Heavy Rotation Issue 7 July '95
By far the best issue of *Heavy Rotation* I've seen. Definetely the best zine I've read all day (and that's a lot of zines). Bob devoted this issue to exploring fanzines with his special secion called "talking shop with independent publisher."

He interviewed eight different publishers, asking them a variety of probing questions such as what makes a good zine, how much does it cost to print, and how do you distribute your zine. John Marr describes how he does all the research for *Murder Can be Fun*; Christine Boarts revealed the many methods she uses for distributing *Slug & Lettuce*; Al Quint explained what got him interested in publishing *Suburban Punk* (*Voice*) back in 1982; and Jim (*Jersey Beat*) Testa wrote up one of the funniest exposes on scaming free CDs. Finishing up this section is Bob's rant "I Have the Floor! Does Your Zine Suck? Maybe!" where he explains what's wrong with so many toss-off zine being published these days.

Highly recomended to long time publishers as well as neophites looking for pitfalls to avoid.

This is the last issue of *Hick*, but by the sounds of things Josh won't be gone from the scene for long.

We hear about his trip to Bloomington, get a list of ridiculous topics from the thirteen big talk shows, and find out that his school has just adopted a "no-piercing" rule.

Japankore Issue 6 August, 1995
A chaotic collection of reviews of Japanese and other totally obscure punk music and related products.

Issues five and six are practically all music reviews. #5 has a tour diary that is very, *very* different that the tour diary in _Ongaku Otaku_ (i.e. one disaster after another). #6 has some info for total vinyl-retentives, but fuck, where else would you learn about split 7" punk records from Nagoya?

Maximumrocknroll Issue 147 August '95
Ever since *Maximumrocknroll* expaned the number of pages they've fit all kinds of neat stuff in there. I'm really pleased with the additional coverage given to zines, especially the "Zine of the Month" feature.

I chatted on the phone a few times with Yael Grauer when she first started up her zine *Live Beat*. I haven't heard from her since the proverbial third issue came out over a year ago. Well here she is again, doing an interview with Thorazine when they drove from Philly to her small town of Dresher, Penselvania. Lots more interviews here in addition to the seventh installment of Chris Davidson's "Pioneers of Punk."

Moo Cow Issue 17
A zine that sticks strictly to reveiews, and keeping them fairly brief, is able to pack a ton of them in here.

This is Dave's last issue and he has some challenging things to say about the scene. He's calling for a punk revolution -- something to electrify the zine publishers and musicians -- to finally get our heads straight on where we stand. No more selling out to majors or signing with phony indie labels and no more reviews of corporate punk.

Mutant Renegade Issue 5
This is the sex issue with lots of reprints, newsclips, collages, and random comments about sex.

Reprints of articles on the the sexual perversions of famous people in history, the debate over swallowing, manipulating the oposite sex, safe sex techniques, a list of STDs, and masturbation.

Kinda silly in that intentionally messy zine design style.

Maybe the comic craze of foil covers is catching on in the zine world. This one came wrapped in aluminum foil and it sure got my attention.

Gore dedicates most of his zine to the old timers like the Sex Pistols, Iggy, the Damned, and the Dead Boys. I really like the historical aspect where he traces early trends in punk and prints quotes from fans of long ago.

Noises From the Garage Issue 4 Fall '95
Brian moved from Kansas to Indiana and so he expanded the focus of his zine. He describes it as a punkish zine devoted to "garage, 70's style punk, surf, pop, pop-punk 'n roll."

Mostly interviews with bands like Gas Huffer, New Bomb Turks, and Total Passover.

Ohtazine Vol 1 Issue 2 September, 1995
Divinely inspired by Pat Ohta, his seminal Hawaiian punkzine _Iron Cross_, and his chaotic serenity, _Ohtazine_ covers the bits and pieces of Island parallel culture that somehow get missed by the other Hawaiian zines.

Steak Bikini. Liz Pestana and her steak bikini. Liz Pestana and her huge Shiva tattoo and her amazing bikini made of two steaks and a lot of Saran Wrap. I'm obssesed with this picture. You should be, too. But if you aren't obsessed by beef bras, there's still plenty of radcool punkshit here. Malia interviews Hawaiian expatriate Jon Moritsugu - the wild talent behind such awesome films as "Mod Fuck Explosion" and "Hippy Pron." Mike _Underbite_ interviews Unit 101 and Malia interviews Down By Law. Plus military personnel dance steps and buttloads of reviews.

Pie Mag Issue 6 June '95
The first all-Swedish zine I've seen in a while. It's almost all interviews with Scandinavian groups (ten in this issue), but occasionally other bands find their way in here.

Johan and crew stay connected to the scene through their radio show, distribution, and compilation tapes that come with every other issue.

Pit Report Issue 27 July 95
They must be doing great on sales to give this hefty a mag away free. If MRR had their attitude about punk, the whole scene would be better off. This is a Boston-NYC connection that does an excellent job promoting punk rawk in all its forms.

Total Chaos, Battalion of Saints, Doc Hopper and more are profiled this time around.

Punk Planet Issue 9 October '95
Mega punk zine that mixes the familiar columns/interviews/reviews format with some snappy articles and even short fiction.

Susan Wills told us about her cable show Punk Uprisings that is trying to take punk networking to a new level. But the problems she is up against are all too familiar and frustrating. Warner Bros refused to let her air (or even conduct) an interview with Green Day, Pansy Division was told to limit their TV exposure, and expenses are running to $20,000 a week. But she's not packing it in. There is also a clear and concise introduction to the Internet for the newly-cyber. Comes with a four-band 7" flexi.

Dave puts a stronger emphasis on political writings, producing is a thoughtful zine that doesn't hit you over the head with dogma.

He now moved to Pittsburgh, going back to Pitt, and and gave up on Vigilance Records. In other news he's going to continue publishing, though he's changing the tile to *Warning: May Provoke Thought* with the next issue. This issue features some very thoughtful analysies of the Republican "Contract With America" and the Chrisian Coalition's "Contract with the American Family."

Rip Your Heart Out Issue 2
Tim doesn't seem to take punk culture too seriously and his zine is a refreshing change from the dogma normally found in the scene.

He does a great analysis of the role brick walls play on LP cover art and what the characteristics of the wall say about the band. We also get a great discussion of the Spiderman newspaper strip and chat with The Rip Offs.

"Sometime in late 1985, I decided to put out a zine...From that feeble beginning, I've been putting out zines ever since." Ten years later Bob copiled this 10th Anniversary issue that looks back on *Shoelace*, *This Zine Sucks*, and many other zines that he worked on.

Lots of reviews, discussions, rants, and interviews with Cub and The Grey Spikes.

I particularly like the letters section that includes lengthy responces/discussions from Bob.

Splatterspleen Issue 4
A punk/personal zine with stories that really draw the readers in and give them something to respond to.

Amanda's band Impetus Inter hit the road with pals Dillinger Four for a week and a half of shows all over the Midwest. Travel stories are always a hit with me, and this one was particularly charming. I think it was the way Amanda broke it up into distinct segments, telling one story on each leg of the tour. Her Bloomington, Indiana story is about learning to shoplift on tour and quickly giving it up when her nervousness overrides her kleptomania. An excellent array of essays matches all the personal stuff.

That Girl Issue 5
Not the Marlow Thomas fanzine you've been waiting for, but something almost as good.

This time Kelli tells us about the nightmarish run-in she had with the punks outside Amoeba in Berkeley. While she was waiting for her boyfriend, a whole gang began to mock her clothes, the records she bought, and scream at her that girls were stupid. When her boyfriend showed up they got their revenge. They rode their bikes to the park, got the best throwing rocks they could find, and did a drive-by shooting, cave man style.

VY-Zine Issue 4
Jason, Theodore, and friends put out this venomous, spiteful zine that has its share of silliness.

I liked Jason's glimpse of the new fun park, "White Trash World." You can pose for pictures with your favorite characters from *Deliverance*, let your kids ride the "Tetanus Swings", and for quick eats visit the "Fried Bologna Sammich Stand." There's also a nasty rant on punk zines. As Theo says, "When's the last time a zine actually accomplished anything?"

A fanzine devoted to the king of all punk rockers, GG Allin.

There's a personal appreciation of the man, a reprint of the letter he wrote to *Flipside* about his 1992 parole being denined, and an interview from February '92. "Of course GG is no more. It is hard to picture him no longer being the bald, half-naked, shit-throwing mutant, that he was."

It's kinda old but they printed up 2,000 so you should be able to get a copy.

Zum Issue 8 Fall '95
It's been a year since I first saw this but they're still just as punk as ever with a design is just all-over-the-place chaos.

There's some sort of tour diary and interviews with Tattle Tale, Trenchmouth, Heavy Vegetable, and the director of *Ritual*.
