The Answer Vol 1 Issue 1 February, 1996
What does this mean? Zines have future dates, but *my* birthday? What is the question? What's all this weird ass astrology that doesn't look like any other astrology? What's with all the percentages that don't add up to 100? What are all the connections that don't seem to connect? How much is the really vague references to other people, and how much to the author himself? What's up with "Carol used to call me. I was doing therapy? I was being crucified, 4-43-100." Just what is _The Answer_?

"4666 Bytes of Blasphemy & Liberation in Image, Word & Gnosis." In other words, page after page tweaked-out collages dealing with Heavy Magick.

I think to understand where this is coming from, one would have to read a lot of Crowley and other Thelemic literature and do a lot of methamphetamines. But that still won't help decipher the handwritting.

Battle Cry Sounding: This Is The Year of God's Rage !!! Issue 129 May, 1995
_Battle Cry Sounding_ is one of several titles sent to us from Aggressive Christianity Mission Training Corps. The key word here is aggressive, as the organization is patterned after the military, members are ranked and there is a great deal of militaristic language and metaphor mixed in with the usual bits of scripture. But don't think that militarism means anti-feminist - as ACMT is equal opportunity.

This quarter's package came with a great anti-TV rant "Kill your TV."

Very popular in Nigeria.

Blow My Colon Issue 2 August '95
I loved the last issue, but this one KICKS ASS! Absolutely vital to fans of misanthropic hate-filled rant zines. The writing is filled with venom but carefully constructed making it sharp as fangs.

I love the expose on "Child Stars Gone Bad, Real Bad" where they detail all the perverse depths that child stars have plunged to since falling out of the public's eye. It starts with the story of Danny "Partridge" Bonaduce beating up a transvestite, but continues on revealing all the dirt on Freddie Prinze, Gary Coleman, and Butch "Eddie Munster" Patrick. Sean (*Mailbomb*) Guillory makes another appearance -- this time giving us a inside look at the life of the interstate truckers. Rounding out this issue we get more tips for prank phone harassment, finding degenerate sex on the Internet, stealing vast quatities of time, office suplies, and computer equipment from work.

If you like *Crank* and *Answer Me*, you're sure to love this one.

Bufo's Weird World Issue 1 July '95
This is the print version of a UFO/strange phenomenon e-zine that provides a great roundup of current reports and discussion.

There's several comments about the newly released 1947 Roswell film that purports to show the autopsy of an alien and the Army's recovery of the spacecraft. If authentic, it would have bewildering implications for our society. In other reports, Ray Wallace is claiming to have faked the "original" Bigfoot prints just to pull one over on his employees.

A zine all about Syntalk, the mind-control language utilyzed by *Change*. Supposedly Syntalk words and phrases are peppered throughout the text but I didn't see anything unusual. I guess I need to know the code before I can "amplify the latent synergies" of my mind.

Christian Crusade for Truth: Intelligence Newsletter April, 1995
"America has strayed from the Christian customs, morals and mores that once made our nations great and respected. Most understand and accept our identity as the genuine Israel of the Bible. This is just as did our Celto-Saxon ancestors who founded this nation."

"The great conflict between East and West, Left-Wing and Right-Wing, 'Judeo-Christian' Zionism and genuine Christian Republicanism continues to rage." That quote and, "A system of controlled psychology is being used to cause mainline Christianity, the government, the schools and the public to apologize and grovel at the feet of a perceived victim where there is no justification." And just who are these perceived victims? Why those Jews, of course. Holocuast? What Holocaust?

Christianity in Action
A thoughtful publication that deals with secular and social issue which Christians must grapple with. Instead of being single-minded, they appear to be more open to things then the hard-lined Christian Right.

While the Agressive Christianity Mission Training Corps is declaring war on everyone who disagrees with them, These folks printed an eight-page article questioning the validity of a "just war" and war in general.

I don't understand why so many Christian groups expound hatred and intolerance when Christ himself preached understand, forgiveness, and most importantly, love. I wish these folks much luck for their future quest.

Death to the World: The Last True Rebelion Issue 7
I never thought I'd see anything resembling a Russian Orthodox zine, but the mailbag brings strange things indeed.

This radical branch of the Church has attracted an eclectic mix of Old World religion and Berkelely punks turned monks. Issue #7 explores the sacred places of the sect ranging from their austere monastery on a California mountaintop to their remote island sanctuary in Alaska that's only accessible by kayak. There's also a tribute to Monk Nestor who was stabbed to death in 1993. With this renewed interest in Orthodoxy, I have to wonder if the Khlisty and Molokane sects are far behind.

See the book *Youth of the Apocalypse* (reviewed this issue) for a fuller account of their beliefs.

Extraordinary Science: The Official Magazine of the International Tesla Society Vol 7 Issue 1 March, 1995
Although slick and pricey like a real magazine (which it resembles), the derth of ads and truly fringe subject matter (free energy, cold fusion, wireless transmission of power, and the Man himself - Nikolai Tesla) make this of interest to readers of *F5*.

I've read in many zines about the dangers of HAARP, but this issue of _Extraordinary Science_ delves into the Teslan origins of the technologies, and explains the potential dangers without resorting to purely unfounded hyperbole. And related to those potential dangers is Olivers Nichelson's article on how Tesla may have been responsible for the Tunguska Explosion. Along with the rather frightening piece on the popularity of Aspertane-sweetened drinks and airline pilots who go on to have mid-flight seizures, and the increase of brain cancer linked to the expansion of radio broadcasts makes for a fairly depressing and almost anti-tech issue. On the up side is a method for eliminating radioactivity through incineration and a highly effcient engine.

Len Bracken publishes this Situationist-inspired zine with the help of Bob Black and many others.

This issue has a special secion on "No Nation, No Work," with Len Bracken's discussions about the state of the global worker, Len's critique of Fredy Perlman's essay "The Continuing Appeal of Nationalism," Bob Black's history of the American labor movement, and Simone Weil's deconstruction of factory work. I love the Satire section featuring an anonymous piece proposing what the future holds for today's underground conspiracy theorists. The Basics section presents a plethora of useful information people new to all this *theory*, who didn't grow up on Kerry Thronley and *Dharma Combat*.

"Greetings! We are Jal'Kae and Zaruna Ataza. We are the third team of walk-ins at Starbuilders. We joined the human race on the Spring Equinox of this year." They're Divine Sparks who have "walked-in" to a pair of human hosts, sort of like a permanent channelling. _Federation Flash_ is a magalog of their philosophies, outlook and products.

OK, I'm totally lost as to just who is inhabiting these bodies. Now it's Evin and Malchora (although Jal'Kae is still the name for email). Whoever it is, they're now "incorporating fifth-dimensional principles into new business ventures." Specifically a 900-number psychic hotline. This publication breaks the mold of fringe immortality zines with informative, rational (and very readable) essays in a bright colorful package.

Many new studies but the results are still the same -- weight gains increase a woman's chance of having a heart attack, vigorous excersise increase longevity, women are attracted to men with dominant characteristics, sleep help strenthen your immune system, mother's milk helps fight disease, and CFCs cause ozone depletion. Lots of articles birthing and parenting would make this issue very useful to new health-conscious parents. I also liked Kevin Brown's informative introduction to People Forever.

Twice the *Geis Letter* was left for dead and twice it rose from the ashes to continue publishing. It's Richard's personal rant-zine with newsclips and commentary.

It's full steam ahead as he covers a lot of ground in this issue. My favorate part is her personal history publishing, taxes, and where the two intersected. Back in the 60's he wrote a novel that was dragged throught the courts on an obscenity case. Ever since that time he's been extra careful in preparing his taxes, knowing full well that they're giving 'em the extra scrutiny.

The INFO Journal: Science and the Unknown Issue 73 Winter, 1995
The premiere zine that explores fortean (i.e. weird stuff not easily explainable using current scientific theories and knowledge) phenomonae. Evidence is presented objectively, and all possibilities are discussed.

This issue has a little bit of everything, although most of the full-length articles deal with cryptozoological encounters: giant snakes in Maryland, the wingless birds of Hiva-Oa, the yeti-like creatures of Tierra del Fuego (along with other fortean events that occured there in the late 19th century), and the intriguing encounter with a creature nicknamed Batsquatch that sounds more like a demon from a Dungeons and Dragons campaign. The Inquisitor Vol 1 Issue 1 June '95
*Grey Areas* claims to explore margin, fringe, and underground culture. Well, this zine explores more genuinely underground ideas in 29 digest pages than *Grey Areas* does in one of their giant $7 issues. This stuff is so hot that it's hard to say how long they'll be around

It starts with five pages of the straightest information on "legal highs" around. They present what medical science says the herbs will do and then tell you straight out what the real deal is. "Betel nuts: Not worth it!" "California poppy: Worthless junk!" "Morning-glory seeds: You have to eat a minimum of a whopping five ounces of these things to even get a slight buzz." Their discussion of the best marijuana seeds is even more valuable, including an illustration of the seed and recommended growing conditions. We also get advice on having your bail returned, the inner workings of R.O.R. programs, and tips for smuggling contraband through the U.S. mail. The "Black Anal Sex" suppliment is just that -- 12 pages of a person sticking a dildo up their butt.

J Man Times Issue 5
This kinda reminds me of *Answer Me* or other anger-filled zines but much friendlier and zine-like.

Strange as it may sound, it appears that the J. Man has discovered Christianity and God. It's still the same zine, but added to the anger and sexual perversion is a whole lotta fire 'n brimstone religious prostelisizing. I don't know if he's being genine or satirical but either way the Chistian philosophy has permiated his zine. There's a masturbation fantasy about Sheryl Crow (where he demands to know if she's a Christian), a piece about racial price (dotted with Biblical references), and an interview with Colin Ferguson (the man convicted of the LIRR shooting).

An outragously confusing zine.

Killing Times Vol 1 Issue 4 Winter '95/'96
Another serial killer/mass murderer zine -- but they do their homework, and put together an informative publication.

Joe Hanson presents the complete story of the "Torso Murderer," a serial killer who butchered people and dumped the bodies along railroad tracks in the mid 1930's. He explained that while bodies where poping up all over the place, it took a while for the police to notice the pattern. The killer, who was a strong man with skill in dismembering bodies was never found. All you obsessive collectors will enjoy Larry Summerson's history of serial killer trading cards. Starting with the famous *Mars Attacks* cards, he jumps ahead to 1984 when *National Lampoon* did a satire of baseball cards that featured murderers. I'm really impressed with the review section. Instead of reviewing just any old zine, they focused on focussed on zines that would a appeal to their audience, like *Necroerotic, Real Deal,* and *These Exit Times*.

If you're into gory details, this one delivers.

Killing Times Vol 1 Issue 3 Summer '95
Another serial killer/mass murderer zine -- but they do their homework, and put together an informative publication. It's written in a sort of matter-of-fact way that is mildly disturbing (for those who want to be disturbed) but absolutely intriging (for those who want to be intrigued).

Joe Hanson picked up a copy of Robert Lifton's *The Nazi Doctors* and was immensely impressed. So impressed that he wrote up a four-page review/summary of all the intriging stuff that he found in it. Q. Russell wrote up a history of Ediwn Davis, the inventor of the electic chair and the first licensed executioner; J. Gregart explored the new trend in infanticide; and M. Freyedmann told us about Dr. Buck Ruxton, the murdering doctor.

If you're into gory details, this one delivers. Naturally recommened to fans of *Murder Can Be Fun.*

Brian Wowk proposes that we are less than 10 years away from reviving whole brains stored in low-subzero cryopreservation; Steve Bridge explored the assisted suicide laws; Dr. Keith Monnington presented a medical view on life extention; and John de Rivaz wrote a open letter to Chris Tame about his tobacco-company-funded FOREST group.

Mailbomb! Issue 1
This title will go over *really well* in California with the current freakout over the Unabomber. It's a new zine created by Sean over at *Primordial Soup Kitchen*. It took him a year to put this together and it shows. Fifty pages of tiny type, most of it written himself. Sean considers himself a Marxist but it seems like a unique personal interpretation.

He explain what Marxism means to him, reveals the racism in the police force, describes the hypocracy of most religions, lists the mistakes most people make with their zines, complains about the conservative wave sweeping the government, listed a number of political prisoners (in addition to Peltier and Jamal) residing in U.S. prisons, and completed a 12-page overview of terrorism, which includes an analysis of the various types and most popular domestic terrorist groups. It's a trully impressive undertaking and recommended to anyone interested in alternative (and thoughtful) viewpoints.

Each issue comes with a cassette.

A magazine of brutal culture and hard-core comix.

There's some really great stuff in this premier issue, including a rare six-page interview with Randall Phillip, the man behind *Fuck* zine. That's just the beginning. We also get several of db VelVeeda's patented she-male comix, a taste-testing of eight different brands of pork rinds, an interview with Killdozer, and two surprising new comic stories from Mike Diana.

If you're into extreamly gross (and well made) comix, then this is the place.

Millennial Prophecy Report: A Monthly Review of Prophetic Sources Vol 4 Issue 2 July, 1995
An excellent, and non-judgemental look at various end-times groups and prophecies. The zine is mostly essential reprints and transcripts from the works of end-times prophets. Contact information is also provided.

This issue is almost like ready a back issue of Donna Kossey's _Kooks_, as there's a lot of stuff from her. The article of most interest, though, is the comparissons of Aum Shinri Kyo and the Militia Movements and their appeal to end-timers. Plus various millenial celebrations already in the works and an interview with St. Germain channeler Mary Jo Gilsdorf.

An excellent, and non-judgemental look at various end-times groups and thier charismatic leaders. Mr. Daniels has been making great use of the Internet, especially Donna Kossy's online museum of kooks, to find some of the more esoteric end-times beliefs.

This issue looks at the "photon belt" scenario that is becomming quite popular amongst the newage types. This is getting *everybody* involved, Hatonn, the Pleiadeans, Bo Gritz, Eric von Daniken, the Cosmic Awareness, Ashtar and notorious net.kook John Winston. New Pathways - 2000 A.D.: Unfiltered, Uncensored, Unbiased News & Analysis Vol 2 Issue 3 October, 1995
This is quite an evolution of a zine. Six years ago there was a Science Fiction zine published out of Texas by Michael Adkisson, titled _New Pathways_, with the same ISSN as this one. I got two issues of a four issue sub when the zine went belly-up and no refund or back issues were forthcoming. Now here's _New Pathways - 2000 A.D._, which has nothing to do with SF. Instead its a zine of conspiracies and potential economic and/or environmental gloom'n'doom. Like _Paranoia_, this zine approaches its topics from a perspective neither exclusively leftist or rightist.

Until this issue, which is unabashedly rightist. Mr. Adkisson raves about the decline of western culture, using "Planet of the Apes" as a model, and reprints an article from _The Phyllis Schlafly Report_ on the NEA's "indoctrinating our children that homosexuality is a viable option." Say what? There's also reprints from _The Spotlight_, _Paranoia_ and _Nexus_ along with some Pat Buchanan boosterism and newsquibs about the environment, alternative health, and various New World Order plots. Still, he does condemn the military for various pieces of stupidity.

This issue brings back the old spirit of _NFTWH_ that makes it an interesting read, packed as it is with environmental and historical information. S.D. Kenly in the lead article lists the most pressing problems and his proposed solutions to avoid a near-future environmental crisis. The article is illustrated with Victor Noble style artwork. There's a new Environmental Issues section covering even more problems and solutions. Plus some history of the Celts and Vikings.

Out of Step: Insights & Strategies for the Individualist Vol 4 Issue 8 September '95
Wavering between sound political philosophies and radically fringe ideas -- *Out of Step* is always intriging reading, pushing for the reduction (and hopefully elimination) of our current repressive government.

It's been confirmed that computers in the executive office of the White House have accessed Foster/Whitewater web sites 128 times. So naturally the question arises if the White House follows anti-Clinton discussions on Usenet newsgroups just as closely. If that's the case, can posting to these newsgroups be a faster conduit for getting the attention of the administration then sending email to the published address for the president.

Wavering between sound political philosophies and radically fringe ideas -- *Out of Step* is always intriging reading, pushing for the reduction (and hopefully elimination) of our current repressive government.

Neil Schulman told us about the recent appology made by Wayne LaPierre on behalf of the NRA for calling federal agents "jack-booted thugs." Outrage Issue 4 September '95
*Outrage* typically covers personal writing on society and politics, so this special issue, wholly devoted to UFOs and aliens, was a bit of a suprise.

The interview with Amy Herbert, president of Dallas's UFOlogy Society, touched on a number of popular alien theories. She told us about her amazing experience with abductions, the government's coverup of Roswell, and occasional cases of human mutilation done by aliens. She also explores the idea that aliens have programmed our social structures and that we are nothing more than "sheeple." Lots of newspaper and tabloid reprints this time.

Debra von Trapp discloses Xerox's ties to cold war era espionage, and current Japanese espionage practiced against US corporations and the US government - ultimately tying both the nerve gas attack in Tokyo and the Oklahoma City bombing to these power games. John is definetely trying to be outragous -- I don't know, I just find it terribly entertaining.

Getting better every time, John picked up a computer and put a pleasing shinny finish on this most excellent zine. I guess my favorate part is the origins of punk/rock band names. Did you know that Soft Machine and Steely Dan both borrowed their name from William Burroughs? Or that Joy Division was a Nazi concentration camp that...well...you'll just have to get the zine. If you enjoyed or were intrigued by the works of Victor Noble, you'll find Mr. Kerrick's to be in much the same vein.

"The turn of a millennium is at hand, and the times are very apocalyptic. You don't have to believe in religious doctrine to foresee the end of the world as we know it, you only have to be aware of the cycles of history." Unlike most end-times philosophers who use convenient (and at times questionable) math and the Judeo-Christian bible, Mr. Kerrick uses sounder Aristotlian and Aryovedic systems of logic and Hindu apocrypha to theorize that we're in for some rather big changes real soon now.

It's seems a bit unusual to find articles about spiritual/faith-oriented healing in freethought publication but *Truth Seeker* is hardly a typical magazine.

A very strange combination of crucial rational ideas and bizarre neo-conservative dogma.

Unclassified: Newspaper of the Association of National Security Alumni Issue 34 Autumn, 1995
The Association of National Security Alumni is now open to anyone who agrees with the association's credo, and not just current and former employees of intelligence organizations. Still, most of the information in this zine comes from people within the intelligence community who believe that covert actions are far more dammaging to the United States than any alledged benefits derived from them.

*Unclassified* is now produced by a sort of collective until they can find a new editor. It's still filled with vital reports on government secrecy, government murder, and other all-too-typical government actions.

With so much great stuff in here, I sincerly hope that they can continue publishing. They tell us about the CIA's new push towards coporate spying, the shreding of the Constitution via Clinton's "Counterterrorism" Act, questions remaining about Pan-Am 103, the ramifications of privatizing the CIA, and the CIA's bloody involvement with Guatemala.

Universal Truth Magazine Vol 5 Issue 12 September '95
An interesting group that tried to unite all religions under one universal truth. They certain get closser to that ideal they anyone else I've seen. It's pretty heavy stuff, encompasing ideas I can total relate to, while at the same time appear completely out there on the edge.

Jerimiah told us about the new race of man that will be coming in the future. "They will be cabable of expressing clairvoyance, clairaudience and various powers that re considered to be super-human."

They are very much aligned with the teachings of Kut Humi, Paramahansa Yogananda, and Mohandas K. Gandhi.

Urcheon: A Journal of Forbidden America Vol 1 Issue 2 Summer '95
It's hard to figure this out just by looking at it. However, once you start reading it, it's evern harder to get a grip on. The plethora campy ads clipped from vintage magazines provide some sense of familarity (in a twisted sort of way) but then you read stories about Granfather Twat who lies in his shit-covered bed.

This second issue has a story about a young girl who gets raped by a black man. Her father then goes out a mutilates and murders the rapist. The best part is how it's written in a joyful, fairytale sort of way. Next on the agenda is the tale of the old man who kept a stable of young girl who he cicumsised at age 15 to produce a broth made from their severed clitorises.

It sorta reminds me of the tasteless humor in *Baby Sue*, only more gross and less funny. Very distrubing but absolutely compelling at the same time

World Explorer: Far-Out Adventures in Far-Away Places Vol 1 Issue 6
Imagine if *National Geographic* focused on the Fortean world of mysterious cultures, fabled lands, and the puzzling secrets of the ancients. Throw in a little UFO connection and some global travel and that would be *World Explorer*.

This has an unmistakable feeling of Ripley's Believe It or Not nostalgia with straightforward, factual articles that are nonetheless quite thrilling to read. Having just finished a book about the Mayans and their obsession with time and numbers, I loved the article here on the tzolkien calendar. The whereabouts of lost Atlantis are considered once again and David Childress aptly summarizes all the popular theories through the years. Lengthy piece on finding Noah's Ark was certainly intriguing, but it left me wondering what it was that Leonard Nimoy found in his movie.

All the excitement of Indiana Jones, Sir Richard Burton, and Howard Carter wrapped into one.

X: The Unknown Vol 1 Issue 12 November, 1995
The weird, the unusual, the strange and the *highly* amusing. This is the territory of _X: The Unknown_, *still* churning out issues monthly with no burnout in sight.

This issue covers two of the UFO enthusiasts favorite things: Bill Cooper and the Nazi flying saucers. Nothing we haven't read before, but good summations and skeptikal analysis for those of you unfamiliar with the wild conspiracies surrounding Cooper and the alledged Fourth Reich. Plus the Omega convention and William Shatner's contact experience.

X: The Unknown Vol 1 Issue 9 August, 1995
The weird, the unusual, the strange and the *highly* amusing. This is the territory of _X: The Unknown_, *still* churning out issues monthly with no burnout in sight.

Issue 8 takes a rather humorous and cynical look at the UFO and related phenomenae with bogus Dino DNA, tours of UFO museums in New Mexico, the *eveeeel force* inside of Lenin's tomb, nuking Jupiter and Jackie Gleason's obsession with UFOs. Plus an interview with Budd Hopkins and extreme Asian movies. #9 continues the Budd Hopkins theme with Budd on the air and various inconsistancies in the Linda (new surname each month) Case.
