KURD-A Documentation January 30, 1995 Statement From The ERNK European Representatives Concerning The 50th Anniversary Of The Genocide Against The Jews To the public: The German government, which is carrying out Hitler's policies in the massacre against the Kurds, is following a hypocritical line with regards to the genocide against the Jews. The German government sided with the Ottoman Empire in the 1915/16 massacre of the Armenians. Germany gave both military and political support to the Ottoman Empire. During the First World War, Germany also participated in the massacre of the Kurds. During Hitler's fascism, the German state began to carry out genocide against the Jews. In Auschwitz, 1.5 million Jews were murdered. Since that time, 50 years have passed. Humanity has remembered the 50th anniversary of this massacre and it has once again condemned it. The German state and the German government act as if they have gotten beyond these atrocities, but it is clear that this is not the case. The German state is not free from blame just because Hitler was defeated. Those people that started the massacre of the Jews are today involved in genocide against the Kurdish people. Today, Germany can be compared to Turkey. The Turkish state wishes to destroy the Kurdish people, it is carrying out operations designed to completely destroy the Kurdish nation. Genocide is being carried out step by step. The German state supports these policies and gives them economic, military, and political support. Because of this support, the fascist Turkish special forces and army units are able to attack the Kurdish people. What is happening in Kurdistan today is comparable to what happened to the Armenians. Anyone today who does not speak out against the genocide being carried out against the Kurds cannot justly say that they are opposed to the genocide which was carried out against the Jews. We share the pains and the feelings of the Jewish people. That's why we cannot accept the Israeli state and the Turkish state working together. Those people who survived the Holocaust should also protest the genocide being carried out against the Kurdish people and thereby be conscious of their responsibility. We are warning the German state: Nothing has been achieved by banning the Kurdish colours, flags, symbols, and national organizations. The genocide against the Jews is still a very real burden. By destroying Kurdistan and causing millions of Kurds to flee from their homes, the destruction of 2,295 villages and the murder of thousands of Kurds, this burden is only getting bigger, the guilt even heavier. The Turkish state survived the period of Hitler's fascism. Supporting Turkey means supporting Hitler. The Kurdish people today are struggling for their existence, as have other peoples who suffered from colonial occupation. In a time when a ceremony at Auschwitz condemns the Holocaust, the German state has approved 1.5 billion DM in aid to Turkey and has promised more help in the future. We will not be silent about the massacres our people are suffering, so that we do not have to suffer the same fate which the Jews experienced. We are calling on humanity and all peace-loving peoples in the world: Stop the genocide against the Kurds, prevent the destruction of Kurdistan, protest against the Turkish state's lawless dirty war! Protest all forms of support to Turkey's special war! We are ready for peace, but now a one-sided dirty war has been forced upon us, which is why we are making use of our right to resistance and defence in order to achieve our national and democratic rights. As people reflect on the murder of millions of Jews, the genocide against the Kurds must not be ignored. The German government should stop supporting genocide. Auschwitz should be a reminder to everyone that genocide continues today. ERNK (National Liberation Front of Kurdistan)
