"Ocalan, Turkish Fascism's Chief Target..." National Liberation Front Of Kurdistan (ERNK) Statement On Abdullah Ocalan Eliminating the leader of the PKK, President Abdullah Ocalan, has been the aim of the Turkish authorities since February 12, 1999 and the results of the recent elections have added to the momentum. The continuation of the Turkish regime, the fascist Turkish politicians are admitting, will have as its reason for existence the elimination of our President. Both the Turkish media and the world public opinion is being geared for such an eventuality. As recently detailed by his lawyers, our party leader Abdullah Ocalan's health, as a result of the most advanced psychological and medical torture, is under alarming deterioration. Seizing the opportunity provided by the Kosovo Crisis, the Turkish Republic, lacking any legal basis, wishes to execute Abdullah Ocalan without a trial. With this, the dirty war of extermination that is being waged on the Kurdish people is hoped to be brought to a finale. The aforementioned policies of the Turkish state target the democratic and peaceful forces and by intimidating them, and the grounds are being prepared to bring fascism into power. The Turkish Republic, by means of the unlimited military, economic, and political support supplied chiefly by NATO member countries, is systematically violating the very basic human rights. This course of events can be impeded if the Western governments change their hitherto practiced policies in favor of peace and democracy in the region. The importance of this cannot be overestimated. Our President's health and his recommendations towards a political solution for the Kurdish problem will not only assure democracy in Turkey but will also be a guarantee of peace and stability in the region. The latest news regarding the Turkish Republic's practices against Abdullah Ocalan have deeply worried the Kurdish people and their supporters. In order to discredit the legitimate protests which may arise as a result of the injustices surrounding the Ocalan case, the Turkish state is circulating information to create a basis for provocations. The Kurdish people, along with their supporters, will raise their protests within all legitimate and democratic means. ERNK European Organization April 26, 1999
