What is a Kennedy? Is it a first name, is it a last name? Is it a space alien or an actual human being? These and other questions are still running through my mind after watching CH on Alternative Nation last night.
Here are some of my favorite moments:
Neil and Nick were great as they talked with Kennedy, and Neil even demonstrated the fine art of the self-interview -- forging ahead with the answers to questions normally asked in other interviews whilst Kennedy babbled away in her own private universe. Of all the biting comments, Neil's best was something like "We decided to call the album Together Alone instead of Kare Kare because we knew people like you wouldn't be able to pronounce it."
Mark joined in for an accoustic "Private Universe", Nick on garbage can, and it was superb. Was that Mark playing the excellent guitar solo?
The "Locked Out" video is great - first time seeing it. Where was it filmed again? Don't get upset everyone, but it reminded me of the scene in "A Hard Day's Night" when the fab four cavorted in a soccer field -- black&white, grainy look with lots of running, jumping and crashing into one another.
I guess we U.S. fans can stop whining now - CH on national radio and TV 3 nights in a row!

now i know why paul's in australia hiding from the american press. there's one word that explains his action -- and only one word is necessary:
KENNEDY.
i don't think i've ever seen the band subjected to a more inane interview than that. and, as you could tell from neil's snappy comment about dumping the name "kare kare" for the album, and from the point in the interview where he turns and gives the camera a funny look, he was enjoying it just about as much as i was.
is kennedy that bad with everyone she interviews? or are neil and nick too sick of playing the press' games to deal with an idiot like her?
thank god that when kennedy got get bespeckled empty head off the stage, it all became worthwhile. the band's rendition of private universe was just terrific, proving that a strong song can soar without any extraneous crap layered on. it was easily the best moment from the three shows they did in the u.s. this week, with a strong vocal from neil and nice guitar work from mark hart.
i do have one gripe besides kennedy though ... why didn't mark hart participate in the "inane-ter-view"? if he's truly a member of crowded house, and he's physically *there*,in the studio, why does he get to hide in the corner while the others appear on camera?
i know he wouldn't say anything anyway, but why not at least give the *illusion* that he's an equal partner in things?
