Melbourne, 30 October 1995

I also was fortunate enough to attend the second Finn concert in Melbourne on Monday 30 October (second row seats, dead centre - hee hee hee). It was truly sensational, surpassing all expectations.

The stage was strewn with a variety of instruments (piano, three guitars and drums), all played by Neil and Tim at some point during the gig. At a couple of points they were also backed by some prerecorded music.

Their stage banter was in sparkling form. Tim was in much better shape than I've seen him in recent outings. His voice clearly isn't what it used to be, and I've grimaced my way through a few recent "Before and After" and "ALT" shows. However Neil seems to have a great influence on him, and the voices blended beautifully. Yes - he even opened his eyes from time to time (but danced stupidly in "Mood Swinging Man").

An additional unconfirmed rumour is that Nick Seymour was in the audience (as well as Neil and Tim's old hairdresser).

The whole concert had a very intimate, personable feel. It reminded me of an amazing show they did about five years ago at a dingy little club called IDs in Greville St, Prahran (did any of you go to that?). The line up was Neil and Tim, Nick and Mark Seymour (of Hunters and Collectors Fame), and Paul Hester. Neil and Tim piloted what would later be their Woodface material and blew us all away (especially "Four Seasons", which gets a Melbourne audience pretty excited).
